Alan Jakman, a native of Poland, will be presenting information on the lists of parishioners (Latin: Libri status animarum) as a source for genealogical research.
In the former Galicia, these books have been preserved in many places. In many cases, when vital statistic registers are lost, this is the only source for genealogy.
These books often included information about the dates of births, weddings and deaths of parishioners, but also, for example, notes about changing religion or emigration to the United States. It can be said that parishioners’ lists are a “shortcut” in ancestral research.
Alan Jakman has been interested in genealogy for 11 years. His own family research has led to the discovery of nearly 3,000 relatives, over 400 ancestors and finding documents from the end of the 16th century. Since 2013, he has been the editor of the only genealogy magazine in Poland, called “More Maiorum” (Latin: ancestral custom). It is published quarterly and offered for free at. https://www.moremaiorum.pl/
Since 2017, Alan has been providing commercial genealogical services for Poles and descendants of Poles from various countries. His business page for genealogical research (partly in English) is at: https://poszukiwacze.moremaiorum.pl/english-version/
